Warfighter CONOPS, Customer Engagement & Business Development Lead
About WingXpand
WingXpand is Expanding What’s Possible™ with Autonomous Systems, building long-endurance, backpackable smart plane drones and robotics systems that support defense, public safety, disaster response, and commercial missions. Our platforms operate across air, ground, and maritime domains, integrating autonomy, AI-powered sensing, edge computing, and networked systems to deliver real-world intelligence and threat detection. We design, build, and deploy complete systems — hardware, software, and data — and we move fast. As WingXpand scales, we are seeking high performers to grow with our team.
Job Description
WingXpand is seeking a Warfighter CONOPS & Customer Engagement professional to develop operational concepts, support DoW business development efforts, and engage directly with government customers. This role is ideal for a former or transitioning military officer, or equivalent, who understands modern operations, robotics and autonomy, and how capabilities move through requirements, funding, acquisition, and fielding. This is a hands-on, mission-first role centered on writing, customer engagement, and execution. You will turn strategic intent and customer needs into CONOPS, white papers, proposals, decision briefs, and customer-facing materials. You will help explain how WingXpand's UAS, UGV, and USV capabilities are employed and why they matter to the mission. The right person takes ownership, gets the details right, and drives work to completion.
Key Responsibilities
Warfighter CONOPS & Operational Concept Development
- Develop and refine CONOPS grounded in real-world mission needs and operational experience.
- Translate robotics, autonomy, ISR, sensing, and networking capabilities into credible employment concepts across air, ground, and maritime domains.
- Clearly communicate the mission problem, operational approach, and impact.
- Evolve concepts based on customer feedback, demonstrations, experiments, and field engagements.
Customer Engagement & Acquisition
- Engage with warfighters, requirements owners, program offices, acquisition organizations, and other government customers.
- Understand the requirements, acquisition, and funding landscape surrounding an opportunity.
- Identify who owns the requirement, who controls resources, who influences the decision, and what needs to happen next.
- Build alignment across operational, requirements, acquisition, and funding organizations.
- Support customer briefings, demonstrations, and engagements alongside executive leadership.
- Turn customer engagements into clear actions and follow through.
Proposal & Capture Support
- Write and develop proposal content for defense and government opportunities from concept through submission.
- Craft clear operational, technical, and mission-focused narratives.
- Translate customer conversations, field insights, and CONOPS into persuasive written products.
- Support capture strategy, win themes, solution concepts, and pre-solicitation shaping.
- Coordinate reviews, incorporate feedback, and drive assigned products through completion.
Cross-Functional Execution
- Execute against executive leadership's priorities and provide insight that helps inform strategy.
- Work with engineering to understand evolving robotics and autonomy capabilities and technical constraints.
- Translate technical capabilities into operationally relevant language.
- Bring customer and field feedback back to leadership and engineering.
- Travel to support customer engagements, conferences, demonstrations, experiments, and field activities.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of relevant experience.
- Former or transitioning military officer, or equivalent defense experience.
- Experience with unmanned systems, robotics, or autonomy, including operational employment, integration, or evaluation.
- Demonstrated experience writing CONOPS, operational concepts, white papers, proposals, or decision briefs.
- Strong understanding of DoD requirements, acquisition, funding, and the organizations involved in moving capabilities to the field.
- Clear, concise writer who can turn complex information into a strong finished product.
- Strong attention to detail and high standards for quality and accuracy.
- Able to take intent, determine what needs to happen next, and drive assigned efforts to completion.
- Mission-first mentality with a strong bias toward action and follow-through.
Additional Qualifications
- Experience with UAS, UGV, USV, or autonomous robotic systems, with Group 1–3 UAS experience strongly preferred.
- Experience supporting defense proposals, capture efforts, requirements development, or capability transition.
- Familiarity with autonomy, ISR, sensors, networking, or emerging defense technologies.
- Experience supporting demonstrations, exercises, experiments, evaluations, or field deployments.
- Background in operational planning, strategy, acquisition, a technical discipline, or professional military education.
